Final night of auditions tonight, Tuesday, Sept. 16

Conversations With My Fatherby Herb Gardner

Monmouth Players will hold auditions for their December productio of HerbGardner's Conversations With My Father on September 16 at 8:00 PM at the Navesink Library Theater at the corner of Sears and Monmouth avenues in the Navesink section of Middletown. Neededare 9 men between the ages of 17 and 65; 2 women between the ages of 40 and65 and 2 boys between the ages of 10 and 13. All roles are open.

From the award winning author of 'I'm Not Rappaport' and 'A Thousand Clowns'comes a powerful and funny play about three generations of a Jewish familyon the lower East Side. Incorporating autobiographical elements, EddieGoldberg's story dramatizes what it's like to melt as well as simmer inAmerican society while it encompasses the universals of relations betweenfathers and sons.

Cast of Characters Charlie - early 40's - a novelist who nurtures a good deal of resentmentfor his father and their persistently troubled relationship, but turns hisanger into prize-winning novels.

Josh - about 20 - interested in learning more about his heritage.

Eddie Ross (born Goldberg) - early 40's - Ex-boxer. A Russian immigrantCanal Street bartender. He is an angry, remote and verbally abusive, whohas spent forty years in America's melting pot trying to reject his heritage.

Gusta - 40's, Russian accent - perpetually busy, puts up with Eddie, hasgood sense of humor

Zaretsky- 70's, Russian accent - an aging star of the Yiddish theater,continually reminds Eddie of his heritage.

Young Joey - 10 - tough, loves the New York Giants and Yiddish Theater.

Hannah Di Blindeh - 60's, Russian accent - sightless, portrays aura offaded elegance.

Nick - 50's to 60's - a forcibly retired police sergeant who prefers tobelieve he is Santa Claus, must have bushy white beard.

Finney the Book - 45, Irish accent - a bundle of nerves, usually anxious,depressed and fidgety.

Jimmy Scalso - 30, Italian - wiry, he speaks and moves rapidly, seems to beauditioning for a role he hasn't gotten yet.

Blue - 50's, Irish - slow-moving, powerful, at all times vaguely amused.

Young Charlie - around 11 - concerned, thoughtful and many worlds away.

Joey - 18 - his boxer's authority and tiptoe bounce of his walk isdistinctly similar to his father's.

Performance dates are December 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14.
