The East Lynne Theater Company, named after a popular American play of the 1800s, is the only Equity professional not-for-profit theatre dedicated to reviving plays of the American heritage and producing adaptations of works by and about American literary figures. The company started producing in North Jersey in 1980, and in 1989, was invited to make Cape May, NJ its home for summer/fall theatrical seasons. East Lynne became known to Cape May because of its touring shows that began appearing in this area in 1987. Symposia, workshops, and touring shows have delighted audiences not only in NJ, but throughout the country, and have been part of the programming for Elderhostels, museums, libraries, schools, and other theatres.
