The Princeton Opera Association, founded in 1960, is the area’s oldest community opera company. Our mission is to provide professional-level musical entertainment, as well as educational opportunities for young singers in the greater Delaware Valley region. We often rely upon the talents and services of the professional-quality singers who perform with us on a voluntary basis. Princeton opera's repertoire spans the full range of musical theatre, from operas, operettas, to Broadway shows. Our productions also run the gamut from cabarets with singers and piano, to fully-staged productions with complete orchestras. One of the organization’s primary goals is to provide an outlet for singers to develop their pre-professional performing experience. Consequently, Princeton Opera enlists many young singers, students, or recent graduates from music schools and conservatory programs who want to broaden their repertoire. They receive invaluable pre-professional training and the opportunity to perform principal roles with a full orchestra. In addition, POA has fostered the careers of aspiring conductors, music arrangers, composers, stage directors, lighting designers, costumers, set designers, theater technicians, and choreographers.
