Joel's play Mesmer has been presented in workshop at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego, and at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. His novels, including The Books of Rachel, have been selected by the Book of the Month Club and the Literary Guild. Joel co-wrote the film No Escape, and the television movie Blind Man’s Bluff, and has worked on features for Universal Pictures, Sony, and Fox. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Writers Guild, the Authors Guild, and P.E.N.
