is the director/ lyricist of Howard Crabtree’s When Pigs Fly, which recently completed a two-year run at the Douglas Fairbanks Theater in New York. The show won the 1997 Outer Critics’ Circle Award as Best Off-Broadway Musical, a special Obie Award, and the Drama Desk Award for Best Revue — in addition to bringing Mr. Waldrop Drama Desk nominations as Best Director and Best Lyricist. RCA produced the original cast recording. Mark has also directed dozens of nightclub acts and revues for moonlighting Broadway performers, most notably 3 of Hearts, the Songs of Mary Rodgers at Manhattan’s Rainbow & Stars nightclub. Faith Prince starred. The original cast recording is available on the Varese-Sarabande label under the title "Hey, Love." Whatnot, a down-home musical fantasy that Mark co-wrote and directed Off-Broadway, won the 1990 Richard Rodgers Production Award for new musicals. Last season Mark directed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at St. Louis’s MUNY Theater, and this summer he returned to direct Damn Yankees. Other shows Mr. Waldrop has directed regionally: Evita, La Cage Aux Folles, The Great American Backstage Musical, and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
