Anne Meara is known around the world as half of the legendary comedy team Stiller and Meara, but Ms. Meara has also had a distinguished solo career. She has received five Emmy nominations for her work in television, including lead, recurring, and guest roles for Homicide: Life On The Street, Murder She Wrote, Rhoda, In The Heat Of The Night, and her own series Kate McShane. In her impressive film career, she has had memorable roles in Fame, Awakenings, The Boys From Brazil, and last year’s Sundance Film Festival hit, The Daytrippers. Her theatrical career has been no less impressive, including a Tony Award nomination for Anna Christie, and roles in Eastern Standard, The House Of Blue Leaves, Bosoms and Neglect, and the Public Theater’s production of Romeo and Juliet. Her first work as a playwright, AFTER-PLAY, was an enormous success in its original Manhattan Theatre Club production and on its national tour, winning the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best New Play. Ms. Meara herself appeared in the play last season at George Street Playhouse, appearing before SRO audiences and receiving wide critical acclaim.
