Mel has written the scores for Meshugah, Cymbeline, Three Sisters and The Glass Menagerie at McCarter. He was nominated for a Tony as a co-author of Tintypes, and he wrote the scores for Christopher Durang’s A History of the American Film and Isaac Bashevis Singer’s Yentl on Broadway. He has had eight shows produced Off-Broadway, and his regional theater credits include scores for many of America’s best-known theaters. He has been an Associate Artist for The Mark Taper Forum, where he wrote the original score for Angels in America. His current projects include several musicals: Elmer Gantry; Joan of Arc (libretto by Laura Harrington); How the Grinch Stole Christmas, an annual event at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre; and Great Expectations, a musical with author John Jakes. He is also directing a new opera, The Scrimshaw Violin for Nine Circle Chambers Theatre. Mr. Marvin is the resident composer and producing director of the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
